Research

1. Researcher at the BioVision Lab at the Florida Museum of Natural History, (Aug 2023- Present)
Marine Vision
-
Led by Dr. Arthur Porto - University of Florida: Department of Natural History
-
The goal of this project is to develop Artificial Intelligence model's to detect and classify marine/coral species. We aim to accomplish this by utilizing various computer vision techniques and evaluating their efficacy relative to each other to later refine the most optimal method into a tool for the Florida Museum to make use of. Long term plan include a graphical interface and the ability to isolate subjects in images prior to processing that may be lower quality/have more clutter. Unique coral detection in a reef and classification is another long-term goal of this project.
-
My responsibility is to utilize the image data set of marine creatures from Oman to build/train models that utilize a variety of image classification techniques to produce the most optimal outputs in terms of accuracy and efficiency. From there I will aim to build upon the most optimal method and flesh out/optimize the model to become more usable for a generic user and improve metrics.
